In the context of the 2012-2013 season of the University of Liège’s Major Lecture Series at Verviers and the International Water and Climate Week, three astrophysicists (E. Jehin, M. Gillon and P. Magain) and a biologist-geologist (E. Javaux) will give a lecture, on Tuesday March 26, 2013, at 20.00, on the theme:
This Major Lecture, open to the general public and free of charge, will take place at l’ESPACE DUESBERG, boulevard des Gérardchamps 7c, 4800 Verviers.
Is there water in the universe? Is there water in the solar system other than on the Earth? From where does the water present on the Earth come from? What role did it play in the appearance of life on Earth? Was there ever water on the planets of Venus and Mars, and why did it disappear? Are there ocean planets in the galaxy? The ULg’s lecturers will try to offer responses to these questions, which have fascinated scientists for a long time.
This original lecture will link astronomy and biology and try to offer some answers as to the origins of life on the Earth and in the Universe.
The Spa Astronomy Group is also behind this lecture.
It should be noted that the lecture’s theme will be the subject of school events (higher secondary) involving ULg scientists, also on Tuesday March 26, from 9.00 until 16.30 at the Verviers ‘Polygone de l’Eau’.
