Assimilation

Students from outside the European Union may be requested to pay higher tuition fees. However, they may be granted an exemption upon presentation of their identity card and the following documents:

  • Household composition
    If the father, mother or legal guardian (an official document from the Justice Ministry is required) holds Belgian nationality.
  • Proof of residency + household composition
    if the father, mother or legal guardian (an official document from the Justice Ministry is required) resides regularly in Belgium.
  • Proof of refugee status or Annex 26 (original document confirming refugee status) plus household composition and proof of residency.
    If the student (or his/her father, mother or legal guardian [original document from the Ministry of Justice is required] resides in Belgium and has been granted political refugee status or is a candidate for political refugee status by the Belgian delegation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
  • Proof of employment (or certificate from the Unemployment, Health Insurance, Pension or Welfare Office) + household composition and proof of residency
    If the student's spouse resides in Belgium and carries out a professional activity or receives a replacement income. 
  • Proof of employment (or certificate from the Unemployment, Health Insurance, Pension, or Welfare Office) and proof of residency
    If the student resides in Belgium and carries out a bona fide professional activity or receives a replacement income.

Note

All documents referred to above must be originals or certified copies obtained from the City Administration and dated in 2009.
