European baccalaureate

One should not confuse a diploma issued by a school located within the European Union and the "European baccalaureate".

The diploma known as the European baccalaureate is issued in the name of the High Council of European Schools at the end of the 7th year of secondary education in the European School. It is awarded upon completion of the secondary studies course of the European School.

14 European Schools currently exist:

  • Alicante (Spain)
  • Bergen (The Netherlands)
  • Brussels 1, 2, 3, 4 (Belgium)
  • Culham (Great Britain)
  • Frankfurt (Germany)
  • Karlsruhe (Germany)
  • Luxembourg 1, 2 (Luxembourg)
  • Mol (Belgium)
  • Munich (Germany)
  • Varese (Italy)

Holders of a European baccalaureate are not required to file a request for equivalency.

To the extent that holders of the European baccalaureate completed course work in which French was the language of instruction, they may not be required to take an examination to demonstrate their mastery of the French language.
