Sociology - Immigration Studies

Master with Professional Focus in Immigration studies

This master programme is geared towards students looking to study migration phenomena. In a time where humans move on a global scale and where an migration is increasingly mentioned in the political discourse, the need to develop a pluridisciplinary approach of this topic was never stronger.

The programme, organised by the ULg and the Universitad Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, offers a pluridisciplinary approach taking into account the political, sociological, legal and economic aspects of migration. The various subjects involved are taught by recognised experts and professionals. Graduates can work, among other things, as experts on migration (for NGOs, foundations, non-profits...), project managers for international organisations, researchers or diplomats.

Students can either follow the courses for this focus at the ULg only, or within a joint degree programme with the Pompeu Fabra university (UPF) in Barcelona.

In the latter case, they are eligible for student mobility after they have completed at least 45 credits in the master programme.

Students spend one year at the ULg and one year in Barcelona, with most classesgiven in English (students must therefore have reached at least the B2 level in English when enrolling).  In addition to the advantages of a pluridisciplinary approach, this geographical mobility will allow students to observe the dynamics of migration and cultural diversity in two different urban environments.
