Why Veterinary Medicine at Liège ?

A complete education on a single site

The studies in veterinary medicine consist of 2 cycles of 3 years (each of 180 credits). The 1st cycle enables a bachelor qualification in veterinay medicine (BMV) to be obtained whilst the second leads to a qualification as a general veterinarian (GMV).

The University of Liège is the only university in the French Speaking Community of Belgium to organise these two cycles and award the degree of general veterinarian. It thereby integrates the whole of the educational programme on a single site and is thus capable of guaranteeing a particularly precious continuity over the whole of the six years of study.

An infrastructure

the University of Liège is the only one in the French Speaking Community of Belgium to have a Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The infrastructure it has available to serve both education and research is thus incomparable. The Faculty offers its students spacious teaching rooms, lecture halls, restaurants, a library...

There are a great number of laboratories which cover every area of research in Veterinary Medicine (nutrition, genetics, etc). Hospital sites and clinics enable every type of species to be taken in, from the store "stange" (turtle, whale, etc.) to the more "classical" (companion animals and farmyard livestock). Unique in the Brussels and Walloon regions, these university clinics take in a very large number of "patient" : all the more subjects for analysis and veterinary practice for the students.  ABC Vété 09-10 - Photo 1

In addition the ULg has at its disposal riding stables and a farm (over 200 heads of livestock) designed amongst other things to enable students, on the very campus itself, to approach in the best possible way animal husbandry and farming.

Finally, the Faculty possesses modern medical equipment and the most recent computer and multi-media material.

If the state of the art infrastructure is used after several years of study, each student at the ULg is thus immersed in a "veterinary" atmosphere, from the first year of the bachelor onwards. Animals are ever present and accessible; the possibility of investing in the life of the Faculty enriches the educational experience.

A teaching rooted in practice and fed by research

From the 1st year onwards, the whole of the courses, in as far as those devoted to basic sciences are concerned, have been designed by students of Veterinary Medicine. Furthermore, for the whole of the teaching programme the large majority of the professors are vets themselves. A human centred and interactive form of teaching encourages exchange between students in different years and collaboration between professors and students. The course programme has been designed in the aim of guaranteeing a large priority to hours of practical and interactive teaching rather than purely theoretical studies.

Throughout the whole of your study path you are guided by enthusiastic and motivated teachers, capable of sharing precise knowledge gained through the daily engagement in research of an international level.

Finally, thanks to joint teamwork between basic and clinial science teachers, you will receive from the 1st year onwards an education which links both theoretical and practical dimensions.
