general requirements for admission to advanced Master’s programmes

The following is regulated by articles 49 to 56 of the decree of March 31, 2004 defining higher education, promoting its integration into the European space of higher education, and refinancing the universities.  

The holders of the following credentials will be eligible for admission to advanced Master's degrees in sectors other than health

1 – an academic Master's degree in the same subject area, this degree awarded after completion of 2^nd cycle studies including a minimum of 120 credits
2 – an academic Master's degree conferred after 2^nd cycle studies including a minimum of 120 credits, in accordance with a decision by academic authorities, under complementary conditions which they have established, and after a justified decision by a jury
3 – an academic degree similar to those mentioned in previous sections, awarded within the Dutch-speaking Community,
the German-speaking Community, or by the Royal military school, under the same conditions
4 – an academic degree from a foreign country that is recognized as equivalent to those mentioned in sections 1 and 2 above, through the application of the abovementioned decree, a European directive or an international convention, under the same conditions
5 – a title or degree earned in a foreign country that indicates fitness for 2^nd cycle studies, and which is accepted as being worth a minimum of 300 credits by the jury, under the same conditions
6 – an attestation of successful completion of a programme featuring a preparatory year of study toward the advanced Master's degree in question, such as this shall be determined by the jury.

The holders of the following credentials will be eligible for admission to advanced Master's degree programmes in the health sector

Those who have an attestation of admission to studies in a specialization in this area, one which has been issued by a special inter-university jury after completion of a selective test, will be eligible for admission to advanced Master's degree programmes in the area of public health. In fact only a predetermined number of new doctors can enter the practice of general medicine each year, or the practice of specializations in medicine, under conditions that allow their patients to receive reimbursement for care they receive.  

Retroactive equivalency

An academic degree of the 2^nd cycle, conferred in accordance with dispositions that existed prior to the decree of March 31, 2004, makes its holder eligible for the same possibilities as regards further study as a Master's degree including 120 credits.
