The University offers each student an email address (@student.ulg.ac.be) which students must compulsorily activate. Even if you do not wish to use it straightaway you have the possibility of redirecting the messages sent to this address to your usual address (Hotmail, Yahoo! etc.). This communication channel is an important one: it is only to this ULg address that the Institution's official messages will be sent.
Your mailbox can be accessed through our webmail (http://mail.ulg.ac.be), via myULg, as well as through the main available email software (Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc.), via the POP3 and IMAP protocols (and their secured versions). Each user has storage space of 500 Mo available, protected by a double anti-spam/anti-virus filter and backed-up on a daily basis.

The Centralised Disc Space (EDC for Espace Disque Centralisé in French) is an Intranet file storing service offered to all the members of the University Community (members of personnel and students).
This space (of 1 Go) can be accessed from no matter where and can be consulted with the aid of a simple web navigator, is secured (encrypted communications, protected by the ULg username and password, etc.), available (redundant disks and servers, backed-up daily, etc.), easy to use (no activation procedure) and compatible with all the client platforms (Windows 2000, XP, Vista, MacOS X, the various Linux versions/distributions, etc.), either in a native manner (without the use of extra software) or with the help of easy to use tools. The centralised directory enables our users to access, with the help of a single dual username-password, the whole of our services: email, MyULg portal, Centralised Disc Space, Wi-Fi network, etc. as well as accessing public computers. A signal signature system (Single Sign-On) in addition allows you to enter this identification a single time and to subsequently have access to the various web services without a new identification process. The centralised directory also allows you to look for the contact details of a member of personnel or a student thanks to an online directory.
The security of the computers connected to the ULg network is ensured, in a centralised manner, by an ensemble of measures taken at the network level itself (activated by multiple firewalls, definition of high security zones, etc.) but also at the level of intranet services: email anti-virus filter for messages coming into and passing through the ULg, making available to every user an anti-virus company, the possibility of integrating your work station into a managed computer park (automatic systems updating, administrator access protection, securitisation through the intranet password, etc.).
These various measures can only really be effective if the users themselves respect several basic security instructions. Consult our 5 simple bits of advice which are applicable at the ULg and at your home.
