	The appraisal consists in an oral and/or written exam and/or individual work. The appraisal consists of a number between 0 and 20, with the pass mark set at 10/20 (see the scale of notation) Three exam sessions are organised, at the end of each quadrimester. The same exam may only be taken twice in the same academic year. Appraisals of practical work, work experience, tutorials, etc., may only be organised once per academic year.

Passing a module

• If the mark achieved is ≥ 10/20:
  there is no need to resit the exam from one session to the other
• If the mark achieved is ≥ 12/20:
  the exam is passed and the mark is automatically carried through for five years in the same course

For each exam passed, the jury, deliberating, grants the student with the number of credits attributed to the corresponding module or decides to carry forward the mark. The carried forward marks will be kept for 5 years in the same course, even if the student changes establishment.

If the student wants, he/she may decide to resit an exam that he/she has already passed. NB! In this case, the new exam may lead to recording a lower mark than the successful mark achieved previously.

Passing the year

• If the average mark is ≥ 12/20 and all modules ≥ 10/20: the student has "automatically" passed his/her year
• If one of these conditions is not satisfied: case of deliberation.
  The jury's decision is final (see jury deliberation criteria) 
• Passing a minimum of 48 credits (only bachelor's degree and master's students):
  If a student has not passed all of his/her exams, the jury deliberating may, if it considers it necessary, decide on his/her pass as long as the latter has attained at least 48 credits out of the 60 credits for the year. The student is therefore allowed into the following year, but in this case, he/she must achieve all of the missing credits in the following year as well as the credits for that course year. If the credits for the year in progress are achieved, but the remainder from the previous year are not obtained, the jury will decide that the student has failed.

Special terms for 1^st year bachelor's degree students

• For students registered in their 1^st year bachelor's degree course, the January tests are not compulsory
• Possibility, only for modules which have an exam in January, to resit these exams in the June and September sessions (three appraisals possible for these classes)
  NB. This is a system of "assistance for passing" only reserved for first year bachelor's degree students This possibility of three appraisals in the same course no longer exists from the 2^nd bachelor's degree year
• Possibility to request, after the January session, that the course programme be spread over two years
  This system is only reserved for first generation students i.e. students registered for the first time at the university and who have never been registered before in a course year in another higher education establishment
