On Thursday September 17, the University of Liège conferred its highest distinction, the insignias of Doctor honoris causa on seven major representatives of contemporary music, artists and composers, "purveyors of music":

Henri Pousseur (posthumously)

Archie Shepp
Robert Wyatt
as well as on the inventors of the World Wide Web
Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee
Robert Cailliau
The day's programme included two public debates ("Purveyors of music" and "How far can the web be spun?"), the official ceremony marking the beginning of the academic year and an exceptional private concert at the Liège Philharmonic.
