Academic Year Opening Ceremony 2012

Visuel RA 2012The day of the Academic Year Opening Ceremony, September 26, 2012, was framed by the theme of space and aerospace, with prestigious high level guests at the university.

After an exceptional encounter-debate in the morning in the presence of the complete crew, 20 years after, of the ATLAS-1 mission (flight STS-45 of the Atlantis space shuttle), including Dirk Frimout and Charles Bolden, the afternoon was marked by the traditional Academic Year Opening Ceremony.

During this ceremony the University’s Rector, Bernard Rentier, awarded Honorary Doctorates to Dirk Frimout, Frank De Winne, Charles Bolden, Jean-Jacques Dordain and Paul Van Hoeydonck, Belgian and international personalities who have played a frontline role in the development of the space industry in Europe and throughout the world:

Educational programmes

The ULg is the only university in francophone Belgium to offer the Masters in Space Sciences and the Masters in Aerospace Civil Engineering.

This major event also took place within the context of the ULg hosting the the 4th edition of Space Days  (the following day, Thursday September 27), industrial and scientific meetings whose 2012 edition focused on the observation of the Earth (instrumentation, data processing, applications, etc.).
