Le Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) de Liège est conçu par Charles Vandenhove et construit en 1986. Il se présente comme un bloc central entouré de cinq tours. La verrière monumentale qu'il a imaginée pour couvrir le hall d'accueil a fait l'objet d'un classement par l'administration du Patrimoine en 1994.

The University Hospital

The University Hospital (CHU) of Liège was created by Charles Vandenhove and built in 1986. It presents the appearance of a central block surrounded with five towers. The monumental glass roof that Vandenhove devised to cover the reception hall was classified by the patrimony service in 1994.

This picture was taken from the boulevard du Rectorat, from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
In the foreground we see the new parking of the vets that is set up on a section of the former boulevard de Colonster, then the parking for the visitors of the CHU, and at the back on the right the new parking for the staff along the avenue de l’Hôpital that joins the Boncelles-Tilff road.

Les deux photos suivantes sont prises depuis le rond-point, un matin de printemps, très tôt. La première tour sur la droite est l'Institut de Pharmacie, juste derrière le bâtiment en quart de cercle des amphithéâtres de médecine. On devine la tour de Pathologie derrière elle.
Le CHU a été construit sur le versant sud de la vallée de l'Ourthe. Les deux tours d'hospitalisation des malades sont tournées vers la vallée et profitent de l'ensoleillement. La verrière centrale, de forme pyramidale, habrite principalement le hall d'accueil et le bloc central où ont lieu les consultations externes.

The next two pictures were taken very early on a spring morning from the roundabout. The first tower on the right is the Chemistry Institute just behind the building in quarter-circle of the medicine theatre halls. We can make out the Pathology Tower behind.
The CHU was built on the south side of the Ourthe valley. The two towers for the patients’ hospitalization face the valley and take advantage of the sunshine. The central pyramidal glass roof houses the reception hall and the central block with the outpatients’ department.

On this picture of the experimental Farm of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine we can spot out well the CHU in the distance perched on the side of the valley.
