Support for research of national interest
The State Scientific Policy, formerly Federal Services of Scientific, Technical and Cultural Affairs (SSTC), ensures transversal coordination and programming actions for research, on the state level.
Other state departments manage important research budgets: the Economic affairs (nuclear research and support for innovation infrastructures), Middle classes and Agriculture (financing, on a contractual basis, of research projects), Foreign affairs, Foreign trade and Development Cooperation (Third World issues), National Defence (Royal Military School, Royal Museum of the Army and Military History), Social affairs, Public health and Environment (research linked to state competences) and Justice (National Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology, Prison Centre of Research and Clinical Observation).
