"Digithèque"

What is the "ULg Digithèque" project ?

The institutional deposit project is one of the initiatives set up by the Network of Libraries of the University of Liège in relation to its policy of supporting unrestricted access to scientific information (see also the BICTEL/e project, directory of electronic theses and the PoPuPS project, Publication Portal of Scientific Periodicals of the ULg).

This project aims at gathering together the largest possible part of the scientific production of our University and making it freely accessible via Internet, in order to increase its circulation and impact. It relies on the self-archiving principle enabling the members of the institution to deposit the full-text of the results of their research themselves in eletronic format (publications, pre-publications, releases and other types of document) on a server that is freely and unrestrictedly accessible to the whole world via Internet. Respecting international standards (such as Dublin Core qualified and OAI-PMH) ensures interoperability with similar initiatives, which enables it to fit in with a large worldwide network which provides for a real alternative in the world of scientific ciculation.

The Board of Directors meeting of 23rd May 2007 decided on the creation of the "ULg Digithèque", made up of an institutional library and an Open Access institutional deposit. It decided to make the following compulsory :

  • introducing references of all publications of the ULg members since 2002 in the institutional library.
  • depositing the full electronic version of the articles published by the members of the ULg since 2002, according to the immediate-Deposit/Optional-Access principle. Access to these full versions will only be accepted with the author's consent and in compliance with the rules applicable in terms of copyright.

The Board of Directors requested from the various appraisal committees that, after a transitional period of 6 months of releasing the "ULg Digithèque", only the referenced publications in the institutional library be taken into account in any files appraisal process at the ULg.
