Facilities for special needs students

Are you a student or future student at the university with a sensory or physical handicap, or illness…?

The Accompagnement des étudiants en Situation du Handicap service (support for handicapped students) is here to welcome you, and help and support you with your integration into the university while respecting your choice of subject.

Status of ULg Student Living with Disability (ESH)

Our priorities ?

  • To help you organise human and material help to meet your needs, in collaboration with the appropriate services. We will act upon your request and with your agreement.

  • Students are and remain the key players as regards their studies. They are free to make their own choices.

  • To ensure adapted and personalised support. We work in collaboration with all parties involved, teaching staff, supervisors, specialised services and we look for solutions adapted to each situation.

  • To focus on your skills and resources

Which support ?

We can intervene on various levels.

  • Welcome and listening

  • Information and raising awareness among the university community regarding disability

  • Contact and mediation with the teaching staff, assistants, students, etc

  •  Contact and relay
          - with the other university services (SOU, SGE, social service, etc.)
          - and specialised centres outside the university

  • Looking for facilities regarding
          - lessons: understanding, note-taking...
          - assessment tests: oral or written exams…
          - placements
          - consultation of documents in the library

  • Looking for and managing teaching support
Teaching support is aimed at handicapped students who meet AWIPH*  conditions and covers student support in terms of oral explanations, repeating information, educational supervision or translation into sign language, in order to bridge understanding difficulties owing to the handicap.

*Cf. point 40 "Teaching Support" of the Walloon Governmental Decree of 4 February 2004 laying down the conditions and methods of intervention of material help for the integration of the handicapped

The purpose of the support is to allow students to pursue their course in the best conditions possible. To ensure requests are dealt with as efficiently as possible, students should contact the ASH service before the beginning of the academic year.
