A student who fails the same year of study for the second time may not register for this same year a third time (1). S(he) may, however, be granted an exemption under certain conditions. To request such an exemption, s(he) must submit a written request addressed to the Rector which is to be received by the Registrar's Office no later than October 15th of the same year.
Request for an exemption is mandatory in all cases even if the student has had previous contact with the president of his/her jury: only the Rector may grant such authorization. The jury may make a recommendation but cannot make the final decision.
Students may use the exemption form letter intended for this purpose or submit a spontaneous request. S(he) must explain the particular circumstances which might have contributed to his/her failing to pass. All documents attesting to the circumstances s(he) has evoked are to accompany the request.
Should the exemption not be granted, the student has thirty days in which to file an appeal with the Ministry concerned (2).
(1) In accordance with section 27 § 7 of the law of July 27, 1971 concerning the funding and supervision of universities.
