Making your transition easier : preparatory courses

When classes start, you will be immersed in teaching methods and a rhythms that are very different from what you previously experienced.

In order to deal with the requirements of the new subjects that you will learn, it is best to bolster your knowledge. This is why the University of Liège offers you preparatory activities: They are organised depending on which programme you will be following, during the summer holidays, allowing you to:

  • revise important subjects and link them to the contents of the 1st year of the bachelor programme
  • discover the environment in which you will be studying
  • establich a first contact with fellow students and certain professors
  • experience the rhythm of full days of courses
  • check your working methods and correct them if necessary
  • get acquainted with academic teaching methods (course notes, lectures, tests...)
  • help you realize your strenghts and weaknesses, so that you can best adapt yourself to the path you have chosen.
Taking part in these activities will not be a waste of your vacations! On the contrary, you be better prepared to enter university, and it will be considerably easier for you to adapt to this new environment.

Support throughout your studies

At the ULg, 2,000 people are in charge of students! This means there’ll always be someone who is willing to help you, no matter what your situation is.

Within faculties

Professors, assistants, teaching assistants, student teachers, "mentor” students… are at your disposal, each with their own specificities, to help you with course-related questions (teaching, remedial work, course reviews, exam simulations…).

Practices and activities to help you succeed in your studies

Managing your time, preparing examinations, facing stress, getting assistance and support during the reading period and during examinations, being coached on line in order to improve your method, to adjust your training programme... all these matters are being dealt with by this department : workshops, activities and individual discussions are offered, during your curriculum.

This is why the ULg has developed various initiatives that allow you to live a fulfilling student life: awareness campaigns on health-related subjects, special status for athletic, artistic or disabled students, specific support for foreign students, activities promoting cultural diversity, websites…

Practical support

The campus has broadband WiFi coverage (with 850 hotspots). The university also makes over 650 computers available to students. You will receive an e-mail address as well as a username that will allow you to access the myULg online portal. All at once a “self-serve administrative office”, an electronic bulletin board (announcing schedule or classroom changes, etc.) and a central access point for online resources (distance courses or podcasts, downloadable contents…), myULg is the most sophisticated e-administration tool across all Belgian universities.

Furthermore, the ULg's library is among the largest in Europe! It will let you access thousands of scientific journals and several million books, from the most recent publications to remarkable ancient collections including 6 500 manuscripts, 500 incunabula, tens of thousands of books from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries…
