Secretariat : Brigitte UlriciTél. +32 4 366 54 28Fax. +32 4 366 55 58Brigitte.Ulrici@ulg.ac.be | Role and tasksThe Research and Development Administration - RDA - is devoted to the administrative support of the university authorities, the Research Council, the research Units and the researchers. It assists the President and the Research Council by providing them with the tools and data required for defining and implementing the institutional strategic policy. In particular, it ensures the secretariat of the Research Council and puts its decisions and those of the BD into practice. It draws up research performance indicators and circulates the information regarding the global trend of the research in the ULg. The RDA is organised to meet with the large challenges that the subsidiation and administrative management of the public contractual research projects pose: the financing sources are multiple and scattered, the demands in terms of administrative quality are sometimes immoderate, the partnerships are difficult to organise and manage, the researchers often appealed to. It thus accompanies the Research Units and researchers in their quest for financing, by spreading information, proposing leads and encounters, contributing to the preparation of their projects, negotiating with sponsors and beginning the conventions. It helps, if the teams so desire, with the administrative management of complex multi-partner projects and can assist in delicate situations. The RDA provides individual support to the researchers for their personal assignments (FNRS (National Foundation for Scientific Research), FRIA (Industrial and Agricultural Research Fund), doctorate grants), their scientific assignments or their sabbaticals. As a European Era-more Mobility Centre, approved for the scientific visa, it informs, assists and welcomes internationally mobile researchers (in and out). Finally, the RDA is an active partner in the other higher education institutions: academies of the French Community, high schools dealing with research, universities of the Euregio (ALMA network) and the Greater Region (UGR). Its advice is required in several expert committees on an EC, regional, national and international level. It is in different international projects, as coordinator or partner.OrganisationThe specific professionalisation of the administration is essential for leading these assignments successfully; it relies both on the personal qualities of the agents and on the team they make up, in close liaison with the researchers, the public or private partners and the other administrations. The RDA is organised in three departments which constitute unique entry points for specific issues: Strategic management: Research Councils, Institutional Projects, Statistics and Inventories, Researchers career, Doctoral Affairs
Operational management: Financing and management of research projects - Europe Unit
