Bernard Rentier is a professor in the Department of Life Science, where he heads the Virology Laboratory (Fundamental Virology and Viral Immunology).
The Rector is elected every four years by the Academic Board, which comprises all members of the teaching staff of the University. The current Rector's term of office began in October 2005. He was re-elected in May 2009 for an exceptional five-year mandate.
