Mid-term admission (students from outside EU)

Admission for students from countries outside the European Union currently enrolled in first or second-cycle studies

If you are currently registered at an institution of higher learning and you want to continue your studies at the University of Liège.

You may be asking yourself: what level could I be admitted to?

We invite you to submit an admissions file and to find out the exact conditions under which you can be admitted.

In General

Before being allowed to register at the ULg, you must submit an admissions file containing all required elements, and accompanied with all official documents required by the Admissions Office by April 30 for admission in the fall, at the beginning of a new academic year. The file will be submitted to a jury, which will make a decision; if the decision is favorable, you will receive an authorization to register.

Complete the application form online.

You will be asked to show how you propose to pay for your studies and expenses while studying at the University of Liège (scholarship grant or other source of funds), and with regard to the cost of living in Belgium.

Finally, a candidate for admission whose prior language of instruction was not French must show official proof of his or her mastery of the French language. In terms of the European reference framework, proficiency at a "B2" level is required*.
This can be attested by your successfully passing a standardised test (DALF, DELF, TEF or TCF).

*For the access to the master in French and Romance Languages and Literatures: French as a Second Language, Professional focus, the knowledge of another language different from the mother tongue is required (A2 European standard level).

Admission requirements for the academic year 2013-2014

In order to be authorized to register for a Master's programme or a Bachelor's, you must meet the following conditions for
the bachelor's course :

1) You must have succeeded at least 2 years of a university education directly related to the requested studies with a distinction of at least 12/20. During your previous studies abroad, you do not have failed more than once in the requested area.  You must not have already obtained a DES, DEA, Master, advanced Master or Doctorate prior to this registration in schools operated by the French-speaking Community of Belgium.

2) You must be successful in the last final result in the Belgian education or abroad (if you are studying this year, you have to pass the current year).

3) Your academic file must earn the favorable opinion of the jury. The jury's decision is final regarding the level at which you may be admitted. Because of variations in subjects studied, and different standards regarding grading and hours in class, the jury only grants complete recognition of equivalency of prior studies in exceptional cases.

4) For admission to bachelor's level studies, you must prove that you have the legal right to be admitted to first-cycle university studies in the French-speaking Community of Belgium. This can be done by your obtaining a ministerial statement of equivalency between your secondary school diploma and the corresponding Belgian diploma  (you will also have to pass a series of complementary examinations at the appropriate level), or by your successfully passing the admissions examination for the 1st cycle at the university.

5) If none of your previously earned diplomas were obtained in a school where the language of instruction was French, you must attach to your file official proof of your proficiency in French. In terms of the European reference framework, proficiency at a "B2" level is required. This can be attested by your successfully passing a standardised test (DALF, DELF, TEF or TCF).
However, this test does not replace the Examination to prove mastery of the French language , and non-francophone students admitted to the first cycle are still required to pass that examination.

6) You must submit proof that you have access to sufficient financial resources (official proof required) to defray your expenses while studying in Belgium.

7) Additional condition for the Faculty of Law: you must have succeeded at least 4 years of law with a mention (14/20) during one of your two last years of studies.

8) Additional condition for the Faculty of Criminology : you must have obtained 2 mentions (14/20) during your former studies.

9) Additional condition for the Faculty of Psychology: you must provide the proof of a sufficient knowledge  of the French language (minimum C1 level) for an admission to the master.

10) Additional conditions for HEC Management School ULg: you must provide the proof of a sufficient knowledge of the English language (minimum B1 level) for an admission to the master and the proof of a sufficient knowledge of the French language (minimum B2 level) for an admission to the 2nd and 3rd year of  bachelor and also to the one-year preliminary programme leading to the master.

11) The previous studies must be directly related to the requested area (for the “orphan” masters, similar studies to the studies organized in the French Community of Belgium and giving access to the masters in question).

Please note:

For certain areas of study, admission to first-cycle studies is restricted. This is the case for veterinary medicine, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, logopedics, medicine, dental sciences and engineering sciences.

For more details about these special cases, click here

With regard to medical and dental sciences, there is a limitation on the number of students, but this numerus clausus is applied at the end of the first year of studies, not at the beginning of the programme. Because of this arrangement, no mid-year admission to first cycle studies is possible.

This measure is suspended.

Admission to second cycle studies for students who have a diploma for medical and dental studies, obtained from a country outside the European Union depends on successfully passing an examination to demonstrate competence in the appropriate field.

Conditions under which your application may be rejected

No admission decision will be rendered in cases of incomplete application files, missed deadlines, or submission of documents that do not meet standardised academic criteria as required.

The University of Liège reserves the right to demand presentation of original diplomas and grade reports as part of the framework of the registration process.

School authorities will verify the authenticity of declarations and documents submitted. If there is any doubt, additional information and/or documentation may be required. Any submission of counterfeited documents will be reported to all institutions concerned, and will entail automatic cancellation of registration.

The University of Liège's policy is to refuse admission to students who received failing grades in their last period of higher education study (if you are still studying, you must succed the current year).
