Command of the French language

Instruction at the university takes place in French, and so one must know French well in order to study at the University of Liège.

If French is not your mother tongue you must send in with your application proof that you have reached at least an intermediate level of proficiency in French, "B2" in terms of the European framework of reference.

Also, an examination to demonstrate mastery of the French language must be taken
in the following cases :

- for any 1st cycle registration

Exception: students who hold a diploma from a Belgian or foreign school, in which
the official language of instruction is French.

- for any registration into a Master's programme aimed at certification of teaching competence or certification for teaching in higher secondary education

Exception:  students who already hold a diploma from a school of the French-speaking Community of Belgium.

Examinations required by decree may be taken after registration, but must be taken before the first evaluation period
(before May for first-year Bachelor's degree students and before January for all other cases).

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions about special admissions or any other matter.
