Linguistic knowledge

There is no doubt that an Erasmus exchange allows students to improve their linguistic knowledge, but the main objective is to take courses abroad. A good basic knowledge of the host country's language is therefore necessary.

©ULg – Michel HouetMore and more partner universities are requiring proof of our students' linguistic knowledge. Your knowledge of the language will therefore be checked before you leave:

  • If you are not studying the language as part of your course, an interview with a language teacher from ISLV will be organized before you leave to check whether you are capable of taking courses in that language.
  • If you are studying the language as part of your ULg course or have studied it at another institution, show your academic record to Dominique Frère to be exempt from the pre-exchange interview.

Note that at ULg, the Higher Institute for Modern Languages (ISLV) offers the @lter Quick programme:

  • Designed especially for future Erasmus students;
  • Intensive 10 to 15 week course in Dutch, English, German, Italian and Spanish;
  • Registration: €50;
  • Information: Anne Pellizer (04/366.55.17) - Anne.Pellizer@ulg.ac.be  - www.islv.ulg.ac.be/alter

If the language is not part of your course programme at ULg, the cost of language preparation at ISLV for an Erasmus exchange can be reimbursed by submitting the invoice to Dominique Frère, International Relations - Student Mobility, at the end of your Erasmus exchange.
